Blood Angels Detachment Spotlight: Embrace the Red Thirst & Black Rage (2026)

Grotmas Calendar Day 7: Unleash the Blood Angels' Tragic Fury

We've reached the halfway point of our six-part Grotmas Calendar release, and today we pay tribute to the valiant Blood Angels who succumbed to the Black Rage, before unleashing their wrath upon the battlefield.

For those seeking to embrace the Blood Angels' primal, savage nature, this Detachment is your calling. It might even make the fearmongers of yesterday's Chaos Space Marines reconsider their strategies.

Rage-cursed Onslaught

The Red Thirst and Black Rage are the Blood Angels' hidden curses, feared by allies and enemies alike. But when unleashed, they become formidable weapons of last resort. No Blood Angel makes this decision lightly. To the sons of Sanguinius, a victory gained through their Red Thirst is at best tainted, while succumbing to the Black Rage is akin to living death. Yet, for their foes, this means facing an unstoppable force. Power-armored killers charge across the field, shrugging off damage as they close the distance with terrifying speed. Blood sprays with each brutal charge as the sons of Sanguinius tear their victims apart or carve them into gruesome ruin. At the heart of the battle, the lost brethren of the Death Company fight with even greater fury, a whirlwind of rage-fueled savagery that ends in their deaths or the demise of their enemies.

This Detachment, centered around the Red Thirst and Black Rage, will resonate with players boasting a substantial Death Company force. Adeptus Astartes units can re-roll 1s to wound in combat, and if your unit charges, gain +1 attack, +2 if battle-shocked.

Enhancements Abound

You can have one unit scout 6 inches and cast a re-roll battle-shock aura of 6 inches, a handy tool for detachment bonuses. There's also a 6-inch aura for +1 Strength to Death Company units, a once-per-game fights-first ability, and Sustained Hits 2 against characters, monsters, or vehicles.

Stratagems Offer Unique Choices

Several stratagems provide a choice: a more powerful buff at the cost of battle-shocking your unit. For instance, advance and shoot or charge, but battle-shock yourself and it becomes shoot and charge. Similarly, +1 Strength or +1 Armor Penetration for melee attacks, but battle-shock yourself and it becomes +1 Strength and +1 Armor Penetration. Additionally, you can reduce incoming enemy attacks' Armor Penetration, secure an objective when an enemy kills one of your units nearby, grant Death Company a 5+ Feel No Pain, and have a Death Company unit fight on death.

A Warning to Our Opponents

After reading these Detachment rules, our opponents' miniatures might start resembling Horus. We're addressing this, so download a copy and join us tomorrow for the fourth new Detachment.
