Signature Entertainment has secured the U.K. and Irish distribution rights for the period romance drama 'Ambleside,' starring Ellie Bamber. Directed by Mitch Jenkins, the film is an adaptation of Romesh Gunsekara's novel 'Prisoner of Paradise.'
Set in 1925, 'Ambleside' tells the story of Lucy (Bamber), who relocates to Mauritius to live with her affluent British relatives. Amidst this backdrop, she falls for Krishna (Medhi Dehbi), a local man. However, their budding romance faces challenges due to colonial attitudes, threatening not only their relationship but also their very lives.
The cast also includes Rhona Mitra, Rupert Penry-Jones, and Medhi Dehbi. The film is produced by Alan Govinden, Paula Crickard, and Maria Govinden. The deal was negotiated by Max Hart, Signature's acquisitions & development executive, and Danielle Gasher, founder of Vaneast Pictures.
Hart praised the film's 'idyllic island setting and tender forbidden love story at its heart,' describing it as a 'timeless, beautifully crafted romance.' Gasher added, 'It's a rare gem... A love story that's as sweeping and cinematic as it is intimate and human.'
This acquisition highlights Signature Entertainment's commitment to acquiring and distributing diverse and captivating films, ensuring audiences across the U.K. and Ireland have access to this enchanting period romance.
