In a recent announcement from Honda HRC Progressive, the motocross community learned of a significant setback for rising star Jett Lawrence.
- Australian rider sustains a fractured right ankle and foot.
- Current AMA Pro Motocross and SuperMotocross champion undergoes surgery.
DADE CITY, Florida (December 20, 2025) – In a distressing turn of events, Honda HRC Progressive revealed that Jett Lawrence has suffered a fracture in his right ankle and foot during a training accident at the Dog Pound facility in Florida last Friday. The talented Australian athlete underwent surgical intervention today to address injuries to his talus and navicular bones. Medical experts anticipate that his recovery process will take a minimum of three months.
This unfortunate news puts an abrupt halt to Lawrence's aspirations of reclaiming the AMA Supercross title before the season has even begun. However, there is optimism that he will be back on the track in time to defend his titles in both AMA Pro Motocross and SuperMotocross. At just 22 years old, Lawrence has already secured an impressive total of ten professional AMA championships, establishing him as one of the sport's top competitors.
"I can't fully express what I’m feeling right now," Lawrence shared. "The team and I dedicated countless hours during the offseason to enhance our performance. I keep reminding myself that we've faced difficulties before, and this situation is no different. I plan to approach my recovery with the same determination that I apply to my training every day. My ultimate goal is to heal completely and return even stronger, ensuring we make the 2026 season a successful one."
Joining Lawrence on the injury list is his teammate Jo Shimoda, who is currently in recovery from a neck injury sustained last month. As the January 10 AMA Supercross season opener approaches in Anaheim, California, Honda HRC Progressive will field Hunter Lawrence, Jett's brother, riding the factory CRF450RWE, alongside Chance Hymas on the CRF250RWE. Hunter has consistently finished strong, placing second overall in both AMA Pro Motocross and SuperMotocross for the past two years, and he is eager to prove himself in the stadium racing arena. Meanwhile, Hymas has fully recovered from ACL surgery he underwent last summer and is determined to make 2026 a standout year.
"This preseason has been incredibly tough for us, especially with Jo's injury followed by Jett's before we even head to Anaheim," stated Brandon Wilson, Manager of Racing and Advertising at American Honda. "It’s truly disappointing because the team atmosphere has been exceptionally positive, and the riders have been very pleased with their bikes. Everyone knows Jett would’ve likely been a frontrunner for the Supercross championship. However, as professionals in the sport, we understand that injuries are an unfortunate aspect of racing. The primary focus for Jett now is to ensure he takes the necessary time for a full recovery. In the meantime, our team is fully committed to supporting Hunter and Chance. Both riders demonstrated last year that they possess the speed and capability to compete for wins and titles, and I believe they are more than ready to take it up a notch in 2026."
